Your Brain on Sugar – What Does It Really Do?

Do you love sugary products like sodas, candy and cookies? Do you add extra sugar to your coffee or cereal? Do you know how much sugar is in the products that you buy? Well, it is time to take a look at the sugar in your diet as it may be the culprit that is causing you some weight and health issues!

New research indicates that an excess of sugar can not only cause obesity, but also heart disease and cancer. Also, is may be addictive as your brain reacts to sugar like it would various drugs!

Ok, so how much sugar can you actually have? Well, you are supposed to eat between 3 and 9 teaspoons of added sugar per day. However, the average American eats 22 teaspoons of added sugar daily. Just to put that in perspective, one 12 ounce can of soda has 10 teaspoons of sugar, already over the limit!

So what can you do to reduce your sugar intake? Here are a few examples:

1. Eat your favorite sugary snacks in moderation. Just start cutting back a little each day.
2. Read the labels on the foods that you buy, you will be surprised on how much sugar they actually have!
3. Replace one of your sodas with lemon flavored water ( or what ever flavor you like ) daily.
4. Try not to add any sugar to your food.
