Jenna Bush Hager and Michelle Obama

TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager and first lady Michelle Obama will discuss body image and healthy living on TODAY on Friday morning.
As part of TODAY’s “Love Your Selfie” week, a special series examining body image, first lady Michelle Obama sat down with TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager in an interview that will air on Friday morning’s show.

In the interview, Obama talks about the importance of parents and children discussing healthy living together.

“You’re raising two teenage girls in the spotlight — I speak from experience,” Bush Hager, a former first daughter, says during the interview.

“Yeah, you know a little bit about that,” Obama replies.

“How do you talk to them about eating healthy but also having a good self-confidence about their bodies and body image?” Bush Hager asks.

“We don’t talk about weight. We don’t talk about physical appearance,” Obama answers. “We talk about health. We talk about what’s on the inside. We spend so much more time talking to our girls about being kind and treating others well, and being passionate and respectful.”

Obama also speaks with Bush Hager about the fourth anniversary of her Let’s Move initiative, which focuses on reducing childhood obesity.

“This campaign isn’t about how kids look. It’s about how kids feel,” the first lady says. “And we want our kids to feel, inside, the best that they can feel so that they become all that they were meant to be.”
